Succulent S.O.S.

August 2, 2016

Sigh. I planted five beautiful succulents back in May, and three already died. Here’s the thing though: I did no research on succulents whatsoever. Lesson learned? I sure hope so.

Yep, these two died. BUT LOOK AT THOSE POTS. So cute.

I bought three lovely pots, and not a single one has a drain. So maybe that had something to do with it? Also, the two that are still living are the more hearty ones. Maybe buying the leafy/fragile ones just wasn’t a good idea since I’m new to succulents! Whatever the reason, I’m giving all my time and attention to the two left standing and trying to do some research to replace the others!

I purchased the succulents, pots, soil, and pebbles at Mulhall’s in Omaha. It was my first time visiting Mulhall’s, and now I’m 100% obsessed. I could browse all day! Which is probably a good thing since I’ll be back soon to purchase more succulents.

Any tips? Please share your knowledge with me!

Cheers,
C

    Dear Courtney!

I’m sorry to read two of your succulents didn’t make it. But I think this is an easy one: pots without drain always bear the risk of waterlogging and this is the end of each succulent as they do not tolerate much water anyway. Lack of drain is a risk for all plants, but not all are as sensitive to water as succulents are…

Good luck and all the best, I really like your blog and cannot wait to see the progresses your lodge will make!

Arletta, thanks so much for your comment! Might need to drill some holes into the pots. 🙂
